We are looking for an enthusiastic go-getter type individual that will lead the introduction of new high-end optical devices based on coherent transmission. The Senior Staff Design Engineer will be responsible for driving new high performance optical sub-assembly design with scope design for manufacturing, high yield and excellent reliability. Strong collaborative and communications skills are required for interactions with customers, with the design, process, and manufacturing teams.

-Primary responsibility is design and development of fiber optic sub-assemblies.
-Work closely with both internal and external suppliers to develop the necessary active components (lasers, photodiodes, CMOS photonics, ICs, etc.).
-Support the overall development of the product with respect to mechanical, optical, RF design, and process development.
-Conduct static and dynamic opto-electronic measurements. Specify the development/production test requirements.
-Perform optical simulations supporting the selection of proper components in the coupling process of fiber optic devices.
-Interface with internal customers, in both NPI and production organizations.
-Drive scalability projects to ensure new products can scale with demand.
-Identify and drive reliability, performance and yield improvement projects.

MS /Ph.D. in Electrical engineering / Physics / Optics or equivalent.
5+ years work experience in related field (development for electrical/optical component).

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability and experience in the following areas:

-Strong background in opto-electronics. Direct experience with device characterization or simulation of semiconductor devices. Familiarity with InP and SiPh based components.
-Familiar with fiber transmission and RF electronics for high-speed communication. Experience designing optoelectronic components of high integration level (co-packaging, etc.). A solid understanding of optical design in the context of optoelectronic packaging.
-Knowledge of coherent transmission.
-Good knowledge of Solidworks and Zemax or similar opto-mechanical software tools.
-Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

The candidate will be expected to do some travel within the US, as well as to Asia and Europe.
